INAO Extreme White- Set of 4

In the 1950s, Jules Chauvet of La Chapelle-de-Guinchay and Emile Peynaund of The Bordeaux Institute developed an all purpose tasting Glass, The International Tasting Glass or INAO. The invention was based on the hypothesis that surface-to-volume ratios would affect the aroma and flavor of wine. After thousands of tasting tests in vessels of varying shapes and sizes, the dimensions of what is now the INAO glass was determined to provide the precise surface-to-volume ratio. The INAO glass has been the standard instrument of professional wine tasters for over 50 years.

Recently, noted German Sommellier, Peter Steger performed similar research over many years and developed an enhanced INAO with a larger bowl and taller chimney. This enhanced design arranges wine’s aroma molecules in layers, from "higher notes" (floral-fruit-spice) to deeper notes (herbs-vegetal-soil), resulting in a more complex and accurate tasting experience. . There is one INAO Extreme for all red wines and another slightly smaller for all whites.

They are made of fine German lead free crystal with thin fire-polished rims and have a delicate feel in the hand. They are as beautiful as they are functional.
